Swensons To Open In University Heights

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH — Burger fans rejoice. Swensons, the drive-in fast food restaurant famous for its burgers, has confirmed plans to open a site in University Heights. The new location will be situated at the at 14510 Cedar Rd.

The University Heights location will be the chain's eight Northeast Ohio restaurant, and the second in Cuyahoga County. Swenson's other Cuyahoga location is in Seven Hills. University Heights City Council approved plans for the new restaurant at its regular meeting on Monday. The new location will maintain the chain's throwback look and feel, with cars pulling into the lot and servers coming out to meet them. The restaurant hopes to open before the end of the year.

University Heights Mayor Susan Infeld told the Akron Beacon Jounral that “people are literally jumping up and down” with joy over the news that Swensons is coming to town.

The chain's interest in a location on Cuyahoga County's east side became apparent in May, when plans started to appear before council. The lot the restaurant is slated to occupy had to be re-zoned from residential to commercial use.

Many of Swensons' employees are college students, cleveland.com notes. Placing the restaurant in University Heights will mean the company has a large pool of potential workers to choose from. John Carroll University, Urusline College, and Notre Dame College are all within reasonable driving distance.
