Upgraded Beachwood High Stadium Gets Preliminary Approval

Plans for the updated stadium are on track for a fall opening.

The Beachwood Planning & Zoning Commission approved preliminary plans Monday for an upgraded athletic field at Beachwood High School.

The upgrades should be ready this fall for the coming football season, but a variance on the height of the stadium’s light towers still needs final approval.

Students may soon be playing ball in style, as the estimated $4.8 million plan was unanimously approved by the Commission. Planned upgrades include synthetic turf, a larger press box, lighted walkways, additional seating and a new scoreboard and concession stand. It will not only be used by the football teams, but also by both boy’s and girl’s soccer teams, girl’s lacrosse, the track team and the school band. The cost of the upgrades will be covered by the Beachwood School District which will borrow the money through certificates of participation.

"We are very excited to bring upgrades to the athletic field to benefit our students, families, and the community which has been so supportive of us over the years,"said Beachwood City School District Director of Development Shana Wallenstein.

She confirmed the plan will be presented to the city’s Architectural Review Board and then City Council on April 4. This would enable them to get final approval from the Commission on April 28 and then begin construction in time for the fall’s anticipated big games.
