5 Snowy Rules For You to Know

When winter gets started in Northeast Ohio, it tends to stick around for a while.

While there’s no snow in the forecast for the next few days, it doesn’t hurt to be prepared. Here are a few city rules related to the snow that you might not have known about:

• If your car is parked on the road, blocking snow removal, can have it towed. That’s especially true if there’s an emergency snow parking ban. The mayor or public services director can declare a parking ban for any or all of Brecksville’s streets and municipal parking lots. If there’s one in place, you can only park on the street for less than 10 minutes while you take things out of your car.
• Do you ride a snowmobile? You probably already know that the driver must have a valid driver’s license and that the vehicle must be registered.
• But did you know that you can only drive it at night if you have a proper headlight and taillight? The headlight must illuminate at least 100 feet ahead of you, and people 500 feet behind you should be able to see the taillight. The taillight has to be red.
• Keep those sidewalks clean. You’re responsible for keeping sidewalks abutting your property clear of snow, and you can’t dump it into the streets or your neighbor’s tree lawn.
• Want to put up a snow fence? You can, as long as it’s no more than 48 inches tall and doesn’t obstruct people’s view of traffic or block access to the building. Make sure it doesn’t cause snow to build up in the right of ways, though, and take it down before April 1.
