📰 News we're reading

• Brecksville Service Department workers vote to unionize; first contract expected by 2027 (cleveland.com) — Brecksville Service Department workers have voted to unionize, becoming the city's fourth bargaining unit and setting up contract talks expected to produce a first agreement by late 2026 or early 2027. For now, full-time service and housekeeping staff will still receive 2026 raises similar to other city employees while negotiations with Mayor Daryl Kingston's administration move forward.

• Called to serve, but not welcome to stay: Why this Medina woman pursued priesthood (wvxu.org) — A Medina woman now serving as a priest at the Community of St. Bridget in Brecksville shares how questioning early church rules led her toward ordination through Roman Catholic Womenpriests. She describes her theological training, the tension with official Catholic teaching on women priests, and why she still feels called to minister in this Brecksville faith community despite institutional resistance.

• RTA service cuts: Routes 15, 41 would lose nearly half (cleveland.com) — Bus riders who use RTA's Route 77 to and from Brecksville face longer waits starting in December, with rush-hour service dropping from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes. The change is part of a wider package of Cleveland-area bus cuts aimed at closing a budget gap, with several high-ridership routes also seeing major reductions.
