Star Sports, in conjunction with The Student in the Arts program, held a Bees tshirt design contest in May and the winner is 7th grader, Sydney Oswald. 18 different students from kindergarten through high school submitted their designs for review and the winner received their commercially produced tshirt to wear and a display of their tshirt at Star Sports.
The competition was kicked off at the May 1st Student in the Arts reception. Applications were distributed and some of the school art teachers took them to distribute to their students. Jennifer Starinsky, co-owner of Star Sports, said "I have wanted to do a tshirt design contest for years and couldn't nail down an exact approach. I met with the Student In the Arts coordinator and she suggested we launch it with the theme already being used for the 2012 Student in the Arts competition, "What If....I was a BEES tshirt designer". Next year Star Sports plans on contacting the school's art departments to better circulate the information. The Student in the Arts program manager indicated, "a tshirt contest gives art student's a practical way to utilize their skills and rounds out their creative portfolios nicely. We were thrilled to see a local business want to get involved with our program."
