When her job as a Registered Nurse becomes hectic, Nora Langos calmly retreats to a quote by Mahatma Gandi, who led India to independence and inspired movements for non-violence, civil rights and freedom across the world: “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
Langos also commonly seeks solitude by referring to a prayer authored by Mother Teresa that her sister gave her several years ago. “The prayer reminds me to stay humble,” Langos said.
Such humility and a keen eye toward living The Village at Marymount’s mission helped Langos win the Franciscan Spirit Award for June. Staff and family members from The Village at Marymount nominated Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses for the June award.

“I was pretty surprised that I won the award because so many others are just as deserving of winning it,” Langos said. “I always try to see that the residents’ needs come first. I often refer to the Gandi quote and the Mother Teresa prayer when things get rough. Nursing can be a tough field.”
The Franciscan Spirit Award is a part of The Village at Marymount’s Mission In Action program, Administrator Dan Storey, LNHA, said. The winner receives a $100 Giant Eagle gift card; a luncheon in their honor with The Village at Marymount’s sponsoring order, the Sister of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis; a premiere campus parking space; and recognition on a new Franciscan Spirit Award plaque in the Villa St. Joseph lobby.

“During the luncheon, the winner’s supervisor explains to the Sisters how the winner lives our mission and demonstrates Compassion, Competence and the Celebration of Life,” Storey said. “The sisters also present the winner with a gift.”
Langos is now is eligible to become the 2012 Franciscan Spirit Award Winner of the Year, which will be awarded in December.
