Positive Utude Attitude Results in Tree Planting

This Friday, Arbor Day - April 26, 2013 at 10:00 AM, students at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center will be planting a Granny Smith apple tree. Arbor Day encourages communal tree planting and other educational activities with trees as a way to promote optimism and kindness in local communities and the planet as a whole. The purpose for the apple tree is part of a student initiative called Utude. The tree was generously donated by the Petitti Garden Center of Oakwood Village.

Utude was developed by several high school students from the Digital Design program at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center. These Attitude Artists want to be good role models for younger students. Therefore they have founded Utude, a student youth organization that promotes positive attitudes and optimistic views to younger students. Attitude Artists make presentations to elementary and middle school classes to communicate the concept of always looking for the good in any situation, to promote positive attitudes, and to educate them on steps to becoming an optimist. They also create a collaborative art piece with the students, which leaves a memorable image.

Granny Smith apples are given to students as a reward for their positive attitudes. Attitude Artists chose the Granny Smiths due to their bright green color and many health benefits and have replaced the PLU with their own Utude labels to remind students to keep positive!  Other “be positive” reminders students receive include Utude buttons, T-shirts or lanyards that have been donated by area businesses.
