A message from the Brecksville-Broadview Heights H.U.D.D.L.E.
The H.U.D.D.L.E. (Helping us Develop Dedication, Leadership and Enthusiasm) club at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School is a peer support and leadership group in which high school students participate in school and community based activities promoting positive decision making while increasing their own knowledge and resistance skills. One of the initiatives that the H.U.D.D.L.E. club is focusing on is the dangers of texting and driving.

A rising issue in the community today is driver distraction. Did you know that, according to the U.S. Government Website for Distracted Driving, sending or receiving a text takes a driver's eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds? This is the equivalent of driving the length of an entire football field at 55 mph, blind.
H.U.D.D.L.E. is asking everyone to mark their calendars. The week of December 1st to the 7th will be an entertaining and interactive week for all Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School students. H.U.D.D.L.E. will be pairing up with the S.A.D.D. organization (Students Against Destructive Decisions) to launch our annual “Stay Alive, Don’t Text and Drive” campaign. Starting on Saturday, December 1st, everyone from the community will have a chance to sign a special banner pledging to never text and drive. Banners will be located at the Brecksville and Broadview Heights Recreational centers and both cities will be competing for the most signatures. Participants will receive our custom-made “Stay Alive, Don’t TXT & Drive” window clings.

Monday through Friday, students will brace themselves for a packed week of games, facts, and fun. We will kick off Monday the 3rd with an important Public Service Announcement from Brecksville and Broadview Heights Police Officers John Chrisopulos and Jose` Garcia. During the lunch periods, Brecksville-Broadview Heights students will have the amazing opportunity to use a state of the art texting while driving simulator. Students will be thrilled as the simulator will mimic a real life texting and driving scenario. Participants will receive a complimentary custom-made phone screen cleaner. We’ll be kicking off Tuesday with an extreme obstacle course. This obstacle course will teach about the risks of everyday driving distractions. On Wednesday and Thursday, students will be encouraged to pledge to avoid texting and driving by signing our “Don’t Text and Drive” banner.
H.U.D.D.L.E. and S.A.D.D. volunteers will be asking businesses around the community for their support to promote this safety precaution by hanging posters to get the word out. We hope our efforts improve the overall safety in our community. Get ready, take the pledge, and join the campaign. Do you want to stay alive? Just make the simple decision and “Don’t Text and Drive”!
