The Village at Marymount Opens New Parker Hannifin Foundation Therapy and Wellness Center

The Village at Marymount’s commitment to giving back to the community is the driving force behind the opening of the new Parker Hannifin Therapy and Wellness Center. This innovative therapy and wellness center features many differentiating factors that will enable residents to regain the skills they need to enhance their daily living.

The new center was made possible by a gift from The Parker Hannifin Foundation, and funds raised during The Village at Marymount’s 2011 Celebration of Life Gala.

A key component of the renovations to the Rehabilitation Services Department is GestureTek Health’s Interactive Virtual Reality Exercise System (IREX®™). IREX is a stimulating computer- generated virtual reality therapy world that guides residents through clinician-prescribed interactive rehabilitation exercises, games, and activities that can target specific body parts. A resident’s performance is measured and recorded.

“The IREX system is an integral part of our community reintegration program as it will enable our residents to return home with an enhanced level of activities for daily living,” said Sue Nall, Executive Director of The Village at Marymount. “As far as we know we are the only rehab facility in the tri-state area providing this type of virtual reality therapy.”

The new therapy and wellness center enhances The Village at Marymount ability to offer inpatient and outpatient services as well as physical, occupational, and speech therapy and home evaluations, said Laura Shopp, Director of Rehabilitation Services. “Residents also will see enhancements in the manner in which we treat those with vestibular and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders,” Shopp added.

"When it is time for you to go home we can provide an in-home evaluation to ensure that your return home is safe — and that you reintegrate properly into your community,” Shopp said.
