Linda Kolin slipped a red knitted glove on her right hand and stood patiently within the green screen room waiting for her image to be superimposed on the projection screen in front of her. Kolin was about to play goaltender and swat soccer balls away from the net in a virtual game situation. She also would find herself in a fish tank tagging starfish and trying to pop balloons that release doves into the air.
Just a typical afternoon of fun at a local arcade for the Bedford Heights resident? Not quite. Kolin, recovering from knee replacement surgery, was participating in a virtual reality therapy session at The Village at Marymount’s new Parker Hannifin Therapy and Wellness Center. The Village at Marymount features Ohio’s only IREX® Virtual Reality Therapy Program designed to make therapy sessions more fun and productive.
Kolin understands the importance of taking care of herself which is why she chose to have knee replacement surgery. She wanted to regain full movement of the knee so that she could continue to live a vibrant and healthy life with her husband, David.

“The virtual reality therapy is amazing,” Kolin said. “It made therapy more fun for me because it was a game and I was at the center of the action controlling my movements. I wanted to attend every therapy session.”
Not only has The Village at Marymount expanded the physical space of its rehab area – which now encompasses more than 7,000 square feet – but it continues to expand its lengthy list of daily rehabilitation services. The list includes:
