Assumption Parish Boy Scout Troop 810 at Greene Acres Community Garden

On a beautiful Saturday morning of July 11, the scouts from Assumption Parish Troop 810 completed a very successful project at Greene Acres Community Garden in Broadview Heights.

The Eagle Scout project led by Seth Eldridge, an incoming Senior at Revere High School coordinated the project from, designing, recruiting donations, recruiting volunteers and following through with this wonderful well needed renovation of the Greene Acres Community Garden’s front landscaping.

The front shrubs across 120’ were trimmed, the areas weeded, new echinacea perennial coneflowers planted, landscaping cloth layered, sweet peat applied then topped with woodchips.

The GA sign area had two burnt overgrown shrubs removed, a trimming of the remainder shrubs, planting of a spreading sedum and coneflowers, followed by the cloth, sweet peat and woodchips. This area was boarded by nicely sized rocks.

At the back of the garden was a 12’ gate which was completely removed, worn and bent and not used in 14 years.The scouts dug a hole and concreted the pole down several feet, then attached new fencing to completely close the 12’ area.

Then a final cleanup all around was done, including watering all newly planted plants and straightening, then power washing the front bricks across the front 120 feet.

Seth had assistance from his sisters, Hannah and Grace Eldridge, and his mother, Rachel Eldridge, and father,Mark Eldridge.

Troop 810 scouts Ben, Alex, Christian, and lan assisted Seth with his project.
