Auditions for Brecksville Theater on the Square’s "Annie" This Weekend

There are at least 30 parts for all ages.

Auditions for the ’s production of Annie will take place this weekend, and director Jolene McPherson is ready to get started.

“I’m looking forward to it,” McPherson said. “It’s a very fun production.”

McPherson has been part of productions of Annie before as an actress and as a choreographer, but this is her first time directing the show. She thinks it will be a good introduction to musicals for the young actors and actresses who take part.

There are seven main parts for children and other spots available in the chorus, McPherson said. Total, she’s looking to cast 30 to 40 individuals.

The Brecksville Theater on the Square’s website has a list of available roles for children and adults, with details on the vocal range each part needs.

Interested actors should arrive at the audition at the very start of the scheduled time for their age group, McPherson said – they’ll be learning a dance combination first. They also need to bring about 32 bars of music that shows off their voice in the style of the show – the website notes that they should bring sheet music and not prepare an a capella piece. The music does not need to be from Annie, McPherson added.

People can register for the auditions on the website, but McPherson said walk-ins are also welcome.

The show will begin on Nov. 4 and run for three weekends. McPherson said the practice schedule will be broken into scenes—so people probably won’t have to be at every practice—and run Sundays through Thursdays.
