addendum to July 4th post

One last thing: In addition to feeling as if ordinary people have lost the ability to influence our government, I feel the current environment of wall-to-wall negative commercials year after year will eventually cause our young people to turn off from politics completely. 

When my children were young I never worried about what they might see on TV with regard to political ads.  We've already endured months of opaque political campaigns up to this point.   Reports are that there is so much money sloshing around that the majority of air time has been purchased in the key battleground states from now until Nov 6th. At the rate we're going in this country, campaigns will be year round!  Imagine young people sitting around and in the background there's a endless stream of scary music, nasty sounding voices and mean looking pictures talking about candidates.  On a sub-conscious level our kids are ingesting this stuff.   Who can blame them if they become disengaged?

Our country is badly in need of an in depth discussion of issues.  We will never get that until we get the money out of politics!!!
