Recycling Paper and Packing Meals to Fight World Hunger
Brecksville United Methodist Church is filling empty bellies twenty-five cents at a time, with the help of local hands and unwanted paper. Curious? Read more!

By the end of today, it’s likely that 25,000 people will die from hunger related causes. Brecksville United Methodist Church wants to do something about that.
On Sunday, April 21 we are hosting a Stop Hunger Now Meal Packaging event with the goal of assembling 30,000 meals to be sent to hungry men, women and children in developing nations.
To meet this goal, the church needs to raise $7500 (25 cents per meal). We have started a collection for the cause on Sunday mornings and have recently installed a River Valley Paper Recycling Bin in the church parking lot.

We estimate that every time the bin is filled with old catalogs, newspaper, books, office paper and the like, we will earn enough money to feed around 60 people. Can you help fill the bin to fight hunger?
Our April 21 meal packaging event will be an immensely fun, hands-on and rewarding experience for anyone of any age. A group of 40- 50 volunteers can package 10,000 meals in just two hours, so we need to staff three, two hour shifts to meet the goal of 30,000 meals packaged.

Two of our church members, Dave and Cec Podolny, attended a meal packaging event last year while visiting their son's church in Virginia and saw young kids working side by side with older folks to pack thousands of meals. Dave has the church singing the Matthew West song, "Do Something" which asks "If not us, then who? If not me and you? Right now, it's time for us to do something!"
Everyone in the community is welcome and invited to pitch in. If you'd like to "do something" contact the church office to sign up: 440-526-8938 or office@brecksvilleumc.com.

Stop Hunger Now meals pack a big punch. Every dehydrated rice/soy meal is fortified with 21 essential vitamins and nutrients. Volunteers will pack and seal these meals, which will then be boxed up and shipped to those in need.
