Brecksville City Council News from June 7, 2011
There were a number of items on the agenda that members addressed during Tuesday's meeting.

to the city’s 2011 appropriations ordinance during Tuesday's meeting, but that wasn’t the only resolution on the agenda. Here are some of the others:
- Council recognized Jered Korfhage of Troop 175, an 18-year-old Brecksville resident who recently earned his Eagle Scout designation. Mayor Jerry N. Hruby said he was impressed with all Korfhage has accomplished, and council members and city administrators gave Korfhage a standing ovation. Hruby said that he recently attended a ceremony in which four members of that troop received their Eagle Scout designations, noting how impressive that was. “Whatever is in their future, they are well prepared for it,” Hruby said.
- Members of council took time out of the meeting to officially offer their condolences to the family of Paul A. Grau, the city’s former law director who recently passed away. Council passed an official resolution, noting his work in law and his volunteer efforts. Council President Larry J. Potla spoke to Grau’s “wit and wisdom,” adding that he always knew what to say to bring a smile to someone’s face.
- Council approved a change in how the charges residents and non-residents for background checks. The previous rate of $50 for fingerprints covered both the state and federal checks, said Police Chief Richard E. Mannarino – but not everyone needed both checks. Now, the checks will be itemized and paid for separately.
- Another portion of the Brecksville bicentennial celebration was approved. Council members approved an expense of about $48,000 for the granite and installation for the bicentennial memorial, an expense that is expected to be reimbursed by the Friends of the Brecksville Bicentennial. Hruby said during the Buildings and Grounds Committee meeting that there is enough money in the Friends’ account to cover the costs, and that they wouldn’t ask for the funds if not.
