Brecksville Looking to Hire a New Police Officer

The city of Brecksville is looking to hire a new police officer for the .Β
The process, which is a fairly lengthy one from start to finish, begins on Monday. According to this announcement on the city's website, applications will be available at between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, from May 2 to May 13. Completed applications will be accepted at City Hall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 16 through 20 and May 23 through 27. Only the first 200 applications will be accepted.
After that, the written exam will be given in June, said Police Chief Richard E. Mannarino. Applicants also have to pass a physical exam, a psychological test and a lie detector test.Β

After those exams are complete, Mannarino said remaining applicants interview with the mayor and several officers. If they are hiredβand pass a drug testβthat doesnβt mean the process is complete just yet. Hired officers have to go through the police academy, if they havenβt already, and the departmentβs field training program.Β
Mannarino said the time between the initial announcement and the hire can be several months β and itβs another few months before an officer can go on the road by him or herself.Β

Applicants must have completed an associateβs degree in any field or have received an honorable discharge from the military, Mannarino said. There is also a testing fee of $30. If hired, officers must live inΒ Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Portage, Summit, Lorain or Medina counties within six months after their one-and-a-half-year probationary period ends, Mannarino said.
