Brecksville Police Blotter: A Missing Mailbox and An Attempted Break-In

The following information was supplied by the Brecksville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following incidents were reported by the from Jan. 17 to Jan. 20. The information was compiled from police reports.

Missing mailbox
A Service Department employee reported a missing mailbox on Jan. 20. A Snow Blossom Lane resident had reached out to the department, saying that a city plow truck had hit his mailbox. When the department went to his home, the mailbox was nowhere to be found. They put up a temporary box. The mailbox is estimated to be worth $375.

The smell gave them away
A traffic stop and some fidgeting led to a charge of drug paraphernalia possession for one Louisville, Ohio, man on Jan. 19. Police noticed a car without rear illumination and pulled the driver over on Interstate 77 at 2 a.m. The officer smelled marijuana, and the driver, a 19-year-old Louisville woman, said they had smoked earlier that day. When the officer was running their information, the passenger was moving around and reaching under the seat. The officer asked the 22-year-old man what he was looking for and asked him out of the car. The officer then spotted a scale in the car door, a scale that smelled like marijuana, and the man handed over a pipe he had hidden under the seat. He also claimed ownership of another container with marijuana residue inside. He was charged with drug paraphernalia possession. The driver was charged for the rear light violation.

Attempted breaking and entering
At 10:47 a.m. on Jan. 17, police received a call from an alarm company, reporting that an alarm had been triggered at a home in the 5000 block of Edgerton Road. The alarm that was tripped was for the outside garage door. Police found that a door on the garage was damaged and looked like it was forced open. The door inside the garage leading to the house was still secured, and it didn’t look like anyone had entered the home. The residents weren’t home at the time.
