Brecksville Police Blotter: Driving under the Influence, Giving Fake Names and Drug Possession
The following information was supplied by the Brecksville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following incidents were reported by the on Nov. 6 through 10. The information was compiled by police reports.
A missing plate leads to possession charges
Police stopped a car on Wallings Road with a missing front plate and no rear license lights at 9:38 p.m. Nov. 10. The driver had the plate—and another, more illegal item—in the car. The officer could smell marijuana, and the 36-year-old Cleveland man told him he had smoked at a friend’s house earlier and there was still some in the car. He was charged with possession of marijuana and with having no front plate and no rear plate illumination.
Police didn’t believe his dropped phone excuse
Police stopped a car on Brecksville Road at 8:46 p.m. on Nov. 9 after a few people called 911 to report it. The driver tried to tell police that he had been swerving because he dropped his phone, but officers opted to perform some sobriety tests. He failed one and refused to perform another, so he was taken back to the police station. Officers found an open bottle of peppermint-flavored alcohol in the car.
The 36-year-old Brooklyn Heights man was “uncooperative,” refusing to talk to the police or take a breath test and talking over police during mandatory paperwork. He was charged with driving under the influence and refusal, as well as open container.
No turn signal leads to possession charges
A driver failed to use her turn signal when switching lanes at 3:04 a.m. on Nov. 8, but that citation would be the least of her worries. The 23-year-old Cleveland woman was driving on a suspended license, and she had some marijuana in her purse. She was also charged with driving under suspension and with possession of marijuana.
Giving a false name doesn’t fool the police
An officer pulled over a car on Interstate 77 at 12:26 a.m. on Nov. 6 after seeing it swerve. The driver told police she had been drinking, and later failed to complete multiple field sobriety tests and took a breath test that showed her blood alcohol level to be above the legal limit. When searching the car, police found alcohol and a bag with an ID card and social security cards for that woman’s children.
The name didn’t match that of the woman in custody, but she had tattoos of the children’s names. She later gave the police her real name. The 22-year-old Cleveland woman was charged with a marked lane violation, with driving under the influence, with driving under the influence by blood alcohol level, with driving under suspension and with falsification.
