An Independence man is being charged with attempting to flee from an officer, driving under suspension and without appropriate license plates and possessing drug paraphernalia. An officer ran the license plates on a car on Interstate 77 around 12:30 p.m. on April 5, and noticed that the plates belonged on a different vehicle. The officer tried to pull the car over, but the driver did not stop, noting to the officer with hand signals that the car’s brakes did not work. The officer followed Jason A. Forcina, 26, into Fairlawn, where the driver eventually stopped the vehicle on a curb in front of a building on South Miller Road.

At that time, Forcina took off on foot, forcing the officer to chase him down, catch him and handcuff him with the help of a Fairlawn officer. Officers discovered drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, which Forcina said he owned but had not registered. He varied his story about why he didn’t stop, and was charged on the counts of attempting to flee, driving under suspension and with fictitious plates and on possession of drug paraphernalia.
