Brecksville Police Blotter: Money, iPad Reported Missing from Different Schools

The following incidents were reported by the from Jan. 18 to 23. The information was compiled from police reports.
Speeding leads to another charge for one passenger
It was 3:13 p.m. on Jan. 23 when an officer spotted a car going more than 50 miles per hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone on south Highland Drive. When the officer stepped up to the car, it smelled like alcohol and marijuana. The officer saw an open package of beer on the floor and took everyone to the station. One of the passengers, a 20-year-old Parma man, denied drinking any alcohol, but the driver said he had earlier in the day. He also smelled of alcohol. He refused to take a breath test and was charged with underage consumption.
The driver, a 21-year-old Parma man, was charged with speeding and with driving under suspension. The other passenger was not charged with anything.
Petty theft reported, part 1
Police reported to the afternoon of Jan. 18 to look into a reported theft. An administrative assistant at the school said a student had returned a school-owned Apple iPad II on Jan. 10. The administrative assistant put it in a desk drawer, which she believed she locked. The next day, the iPad was missing. It is worth $500 to $700.
Petty theft reported, part 2
Police reported to the to investigate a petty theft charge on Jan. 18. A student told police that she had left her sweatshirt in a classroom when she went to work in a lab around noon that day. When she returned about two and a half hours later, $180 in 20-dollar bills was missing from her pocket. There was another $34 in the student’s pocket, which had not been touched.
