Officers find more than 400 grams of marijuana
An officer pulled a car over on Interstate 77 a little before midnight on Oct. 21 because the tail light was missing. The driver, a 29-year-old Wheeling, West Virginia woman was concerned because the violation carried a big fine in her home state, as well. The woman and the passenger were driving home from Cleveland, where they had dropped off the passenger’s daughter who had been staying with them. The driver didn’t want police looking in her vehicle, so police called Richfield to see if there was a K-9 unit available.

Man hits the gas because he thinks he sees a police car
A speeding car led an officer through a number of residential streets before the officer pulled it over on state Route 82 at 2:39 a.m. on Oct. 19. The 23-year-old Broadview Heights man later told police that he was speeding because he thought he saw a police cruiser nearby. The officer smelled alcohol when talking to the driver and had him perform a few field sobriety tests. He did not perform well on the balance ones and was charged with driving under the influence. At the station, the man took a breath test and was over the legal limit. He was then also charged with operating a vehicle under the influence based on blood alcohol level and with speeding.
Purchases raise suspicion
A Brecksville resident stopped at the police station on Oct. 19 to report fraud. She had called the credit card company earlier in the week to report a charge that she did not make. The company told her to report it to the police. That morning, the company called her, asking if she had purchased appliances in Saudi Arabia. She had not, so they cancelled the card.
