Brecksville Police Blotter: Report of Email Fraud

Police reports from April 1 to April 3.

Driving under the influence:

A Cleveland man was charged with driving under the influence at about 2:30 a.m. on April 3. James R. Cummings, 24, was found sleeping in his vehicle on state Route 82. When an officer approached the vehicle, Cummings said that he had pulled off the road to get some sleep, not realizing that he was stopped in the lane. Cummings failed to complete a couple of field tests and was charged with driving under the influence.

Possession of drug paraphernalia:

A Westlake man was charged with the possession of drug paraphernalia after an officer stopped him for speeding on Interstate 77 around 12:30 p.m. on April 2. Ryan D. Smugala, 20, told the officer about a grinder and bowl for marijuana after the officer mentioned being able to smell the drug. Officers also found a bottle with marijuana residue and rolling papers in the car.

Suspicious emails:

On April 1, a Brecksville woman reported that she thought her email account had been hacked into because an email had been sent to her contacts. The email asked recipients to send her money, because she had been robbed in a foreign country. The woman had been out of town, but not in the country listed in the email.
