Brecksville Police Blotter: Reports of Theft, Damages and an Abandoned Bicycle

The following information was supplied by the Brecksville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following incidents were reported by the on Oct. 24 through Oct. 29. The information was compiled by police reports.

Officer finds the owner of an abandoned bike – and then finds drugs, paraphernalia and knives, too
Police received a call on Oct. 29 about a bicycle lying in the weeds on Barr Road. Soon after finding the bike, an officer saw a man walking around nearby. The 19-year-old Broadview Heights man said he was looking for his friend’s house and for his bike; he started walking when the rain made it difficult to ride, and he couldn’t remember where he left his bike.

Given the circumstances, the officer asked to search the man’s backpack. The officer found some ground-up marijuana leaves, and the man asked him to not look further. After being asked for a second time if he had anything illegal on him, the man said he had a grinder for marijuana, a pipe, two scales and a jar with marijuana in it. He also told the officer that he had a bag of marijuana in his pocket, but the two couldn’t find it. The officer also found a number of knives in his possession. He was charged with the possession of marijuana and with drug paraphernalia.

Residents report missing pain medication
On Oct. 28, a Farview Oval couple told police that they were missing pain medication. The residents told police that representatives from a painting company were the only other people in the house on Oct. 26 and Oct. 27. The evening of Oct. 27, one of the residents found that the bottle of Oxycodone was empty. There had been about 60 pills in the bottle.

New city sign damaged
A city employee reported damage to one of the city’s “Welcome to Brecksville” signs on Oct. 26. The sign on Oakes Road was dented and there was a broken bottle on the ground below. The sign had been installed just two weeks prior, as the previous two signs had been damaged and stolen.

Student caught with stolen goods
Police were called to the on Oct. 24 to check on a student who was in possession of illegal items. The student had fittings and copper that had been taken from the center, as well as a pipe with burnt marijuana in it. The student was released to parents.
