Brecksville Police Blotter: Underage Drinking Leads to Charges

The following information was supplied by the Brecksville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following incidents were reported by the Brecksville Police Department between July 3 and July 10. The information was compiled by police reports.

Underage drinking:

Police responded to a call shortly before midnight on July 10 on Fox Rest Drive about a group of young adults making noise near a pick-up truck outside. When police arrived, they saw that something was leaking from the bed of the vehicle to the ground. The 19-year-old owner from Richfield said it was transmission fluid.

It actually turned out to be a pack of beer, covered by ice, which was leaking onto the ground. The 19-year-old and the four juveniles present admitted to drinking some of the beer. The 19-year-old was charged with underage liquor possession and consumption, and the juveniles—who were from Brecksville, Independence and Akron—were told that the case would be referred to the juvenile officer for possible charges.

A 47-year-old Broadview Heights woman hit a police car at about 11:30 p.m. on July 8. A police officer noticed the woman’s truck was parked in a Chippewa Road parking lot, and pulled behind the truck to investigate. The woman put the truck in reverse, hitting the police car, and then pulled back into the space.

In a separate report regarding the same incident, the woman was charged with driving under the influence. She was not able to complete the field sobriety tests and refused to take a portable breath test.

Underage drinking:

An alleged disagreement at a party on July 3 on Chippewa Road led to charges of underage drinking for two individuals. A friend of one of the individuals called police after trying to pick the person up from the party, saying they were "met with hostility."

When police arrived, they talked to the 20-year-old from Bay Village, who said she had been thrown to the lawn from a car after a disagreement with some people who had come to the party with her friend. The homeowner said she witnessed the incident and had come to the front lawn to check on the individual.

The 20-year-old and another friend, who was 20 and from Cleveland, were given breath tests and charged with underage liquor consumption. The other attendees were of legal age.
