City Council Appoints New Police and Fire

Four employees joined staff Tuesday night at the council meeting.

Tuesday’s meeting commenced at 8 p.m. with the appointment of four employees for police and fire.

“I want to say tonight that not only is he recommended because he scored first and highest on the test, but also the fact that he is truly one of the best if not the best police officer to fill this [position],” said Mayor Jerry Hruby about newly appointed Sergeant Stanton Korinek.

Police personnel are Korinek as Sergeant and Sharon Vasickanin as full-time dispatcher. Fire personnel are Sergio DiGeronimo Jr. as part-time volunteer firefighter and EMT and Jason Kaye as part-time volunteer firefighter and paramedic.

Other items discussed in committee meetings and passed in council:

  • Chippewa Creek sewer project wetland study will be conducted by HzW Environmental Consultants, Inc. prior to repairs.
  • City Engineer Gerald Wise updated council on Sewer projects on Glen Forest Trail, Old Royalton Road, Timber Trail and Gatewood Drive, saying all but Timber Trail are moving along well. The excessive rain set back the Timber Trail sewer project. Council approved a Glen Forest Timber wall replacement project.
