City Council Extends Deadline on Riverview Road Project, Approves 2012 Appropriations

• Council approved the 2012 appropriations ordinance, which outlines expected spending for the year. Finance Director Virginia Price said the overall budget is similar to 2011’s. Salaries and capital infrastructure spending, like that on sewers, road projects and building repairs, remained the biggest areas of spending, Price said. • Council also approved an update to the city’s payroll ordinance. Price said full-time employees will be receiving a 2 percent raise in 2012, their first increase in awhile. Employees had been under a pay freeze for the past two years.
• The construction on Riverview Road will continue for a while longer. Council members approved a time extension for the , giving the construction company until April 30 to finish. The project has taken a bit longer than anticipated. City Engineer Gerald Wise said the main line should be done in the next few days, and connections will begin after that. The project was originally scheduled to be done by Dec. 12. This extension won’t change the cost of the project.
• The city is applying for money to improve some of its . Wise told council members that the city has submitted an application for $1.9 million from the Public Lands Highway Discretionary Program to take on four projects. The proposed work would take place in sections of Riverview, Vaughn and Snowville roads.
