Construction for the Bicentennial Memorial Underway

The dedication for the memorial is set for the end of October.

Anyone who has driven by recently is sure to have noticed the construction happening out front along Brecksville Road.

It’s soon to be the home of , commemorating the city’s 200th anniversary for future generations. The 20-foot-tall memorial will be dedicated on Oct. 23, Mayor Jerry N. Hruby said during .

During that meeting, members approved increasing purchase orders for concrete and labor on the memorial. The city is paying for the costs up front, and the will pay the city back, member Louis N. Carouse Jr. said.

Purchasing Director Becki Burlingham said council increased the purchase order for miscellaneous service and materials by $3,100, bringing the total to $6,000. They had also approved a purchase order for $13,820 for concrete work last week and had to increase that by $700 on Tuesday. That total is now $14,520.
