Council Honors Longtime Police Officer
Officer Joseph Grzelak retired from the force this fall.

recognized former Officer Joseph S. Grzelak for his 34 years of service with the city.
Grzelak, who started with the department in 1977, retired on Nov. 11 and noted how much the service has changed over the years during last night’s meeting. He encouraged council and the community to continue supporting the police and getting them the equipment they need to do their jobs.
Mayor Jerry N. Hruby thanked Grzelak for his service and his loyalty. Hruby said he “vividly” remembered when Grzelak applied. During the interview, Hruby asked Grzelak where he saw himself in five or 10 years. Grzelak answered that if hired, he hoped to still be in Brecksville.
And he certainly kept his word. Hruby said Grzelak was “very dedicated” to the department and the city, from his work as a first responder to the way he shared his musical talents.
After Grzelak addressed the meeting, council members, city officials and the audience gave him a standing ovation.
