Cuyahoga County Offers Free Mosquito Control

Though some communities spray chemicals at night to kill mosquitoes to prevent West Nile, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health makes house calls for free.

“We’ll get rid of the standing water that’s in tires or buckets” and educate the person about problems while out there, said Joe Lynch, mosquito control program manager for the county board of health.

Aside from removing standing water and killing adult mosquitos, crews will also spray chemicals to kill larvae.

Mosquito control increased in 2002, when West Nile Virus reached Ohio and is now a main method of prevention. There are no cases of the virus in the county.
