The Digital Divide Exhibition Opening Reception

Brecksville Center for the Arts (BCA) proudly presents The Digital Divide, an exhibition that explores the ways in which photographic artists have approached the challenges and opportunities offered by the transition from film to digital technology. A public reception will be held at BCA on Sunday, March 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The exhibition will open on March 7 and continue through March 29.

The Digital Divide features the artwork and narrative experiences of Robert Banks, Preston Buchtel, Bruce Checefsky , Lori Kella, Michael Loderstedt, and Jerry
Mann. In the words of curator Bruce Edwards, "For this exhibition, I asked these artists to explore their individual path from one technology [film] to another [digital] and its effect on working method and practice.  I asked if they could show this effect through their work.  It seems clear now that the show is misnamed, it should not be the digital divide, because the work is not divided only the methods...  there is not a divide but an expansion that includes film and digital in the same conversation.  It is an expansion of the media in both directions, as artists look for ways to express their ideas, and medias that
match... artists will use whatever media is necessary for their idea to be realized, be it traditional, or new, or both."
