Five Sets of Brakes and Other Online Purchases Raise Suspicion: Brecksville Police Blotter

The following incident was reported by the Brecksville Police Department on Nov. 28. The information was compiled from a police report.

A Brecksville woman came to the police station Nov. 28 to report suspicious credit card charges. 

She had been notified the night before by the company Trucks XL, owner of the website www.buybrakes.com, that five sets of brakes for a Mercedez Benz had been made to her husband’s credit card. 

Trucks XL told the woman someone was able to obtain her home address, phone number and three-digit security code on the back of the credit card. The order had been placed using her home as the billing address and shipped, but not delivered, to somewhere in Maryland. The person who was delivering the brakes thought it seemed suspicious, and returned them to the website. The company told the woman that her money would be refunded.

The woman is now trying to resolve another suspicious charge on her husband’s credit card statement to another website in Texas.
