Get Out: Check Out a Nearby Festival

Not sure what to do this weekend? Here are some ideas.

It’s Thursday, and you have no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Why Go: This one may help to open up more opportunities for you to get out on the weekends. Your 11 to 15 year old will learn basic child care techniques, safety and first aid, and learn how to help an infant or young child if he is choking or needs CPR.

Price: $30 for Community Center members, $40 for resident nonmembers and $50 for nonresidents. An additional $30 for supplies and certification fee is due on the day of class.

2. RIVERFRONT IRISH FESTIVAL

Where/When: 2085 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls; from 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, from noon to midnight Saturday, and from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday

Why Go: Celebrate Irish heritage with music, dance and community at the 18th annual Riverfront Irish Festival. Wake up early on Saturday for an 8 a.m. 5K and 1-mile fun run.

Price: Free

3. ART @ M.D. GARAGE

Where/When: M.D. Garage, 1556 West Boston Mills Rd., Peninsula;  from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Why Go: It's part of a series of free art exhibitions presented by the Crooked River Gang, a volunteer group of local artists. This month's exhibit is Up Close with Nature. Most of the artwork is available for purchase.

Price: Free

4. PIONEER FESTIVAL

Where/When: Hale Farm & Village, 2686 Oak Hill Rd., Bath;  from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Why Go: It's a family-friendly program that explores 19th century life on the Western Reserve, and introduces visitors to soldiers from the War of 1812.

Price: Admission is $10 for adults and seniors; $5 for children ages 3 to 12. Children 2 and under get in free.

Where/When: Old Town Hall, 49 Public Sq, Brecksville; from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday

Why Go: As part of Brecksville's bicentennial events, tour the inside of historic homes and gardens in Brecksville and Broadview Heights. You can pick up a tour book at the Old Town Hall.
