Local Mom Looking to Start Fitness Team

Katie Rothstein wants to start a local "Moms in Motion" group.

Local mom Katie Rothstein wants to motivate women to get fit and contribute to good causes at the same time.

Rothstein, who lives in Broadview Heights, is trying to create a local "Moms in Motion" group.

According to its website, the organization started as a small group of mothers in 1999, but its list of teams now includes locations around the world. The focus is on setting fitness goals and on philanthropy.

Rothstein, an exercise physiologist at the Cleveland Clinic, saw a job alert that the organization was looking for a coach or team leader in the area. She’s been working to get a team together since May – it’s taken a bit longer than she thought it would, she said. She’s focusing now on putting a team together in time for Cleveland’s Turkey Trot. The groups train together toward various events.

Since the Thanksgiving race doesn’t have a charity component to it, Rothstein said the group would find a way to incorporate that on their own by volunteering or donating to a local group with a focus on women and children.

She’d like to begin training in September at the . The plan is to meet for an hour or an hour and a half every Saturday. During the rest of the week, workouts would be posted on the website. And Rothstein said groups sometimes meet informally during the week, too.

While Rothstein has a 5-month-old son, she said women don’t have to be mothers to get involved.

“It’s really just women taking out time for themselves,” she said.
