Middle School Students Jump Past a Guinness World Record

The Board of Education learned about the school's part in a national record.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights students and teachers jumped their way into a world record this fall, joining more than 300,000 other people across the country.

The —and thousands of others—helped break the Guinness World Record for the number of people doing jumping jacks in a 24-hour period. The Huffington Post reports that the event was organized by National Geographic Kids magazine and was inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign. The campaign promotes a healthy lifestyle that includes exercise. The magazine announced the official results on its blog in December.

The Board of Education recognized the middle school’s part in the record . Physical Education teacher Maria Ganim Schneider spoke for a few minutes, saying the students were “excited” to take part. Everyone took a break at the end of first period on Oct. 11 to get active.

Superintendent Scot Prebles made sure to highlight Schneider’s part in the program, adding that she’s responsible for coordinating many of the spirit activities at the school and that she’s a great example for students.

“I really appreciate that,” Prebles said.
