Multitasking Momma: A Celebration “Four” Amelia

The author's daughter hits a new milestone: she is now 4 years old.

I have a full-time job, as many of you already know, and the director of our department has what she calls her “Birthday Month.” For the entire month of April, every single year, it’s all about her birthday.  She does what she wants, has an opportunity to spend time with everyone, and doesn’t have to cram her birthday into a single day. Or week.

Well, I think that’s what is happening with my daughter this time around. My baby girl turned 4 years old yesterday. I can’t believe it!  She’s so grown up.

When asked what she wanted for dinner on her actual birthday, her special menu consisted of hot dogs, steamed broccoli and macaroni and cheese. A very expected choice for dinner, but her birthday party menu was very unexpected: tacos. “This way,” she said with a very animated hand gesture, “everyone can make their OWN tacos!” I’m sure the kids will all have a blast at Amelia’s birthday party; I’m sure Momma will be vacuuming shreds of lettuce and cheese off my floors afterwards.

Earlier this week, when asked, she would have still told you she was “3 and a half.” But not any more: baby--oops, I mean big--girl is 4.
