Patch Profile: Bella Mia West Salon & Spa

For salon owners, it's all about the customer

Ask Tony or Roseanne Bonaiuto, owners of Bella Mia Salon West Salon & Spa, why they do things the way they do, and nine times out of ten they will say it’s for the benefit of their customers.

Whether they’re in there for something simple like a pedicure or a facial, or for a full service treatment like a massage or a body wrap, the couple said that the customer always come first and it’s their job to provide a level or service that is unparalleled anywhere ese

“We worry about our place and our clients and what we offer and whether we can do things better than the way they are done even now,” Tony said.” We’re always looking at the comfort of the client.

“We really want our salon to feel as though it's an oasis for others just to get away from the rest of the world,” Roseanne said. "Come in, have services and be pampered and come out looking and feeling your best."

The couple, who have been in the salon business for 23 years and operate another Bella Mia salon in Walton Hills, wanted to expand their business when they stumbled across their future location on a drive through Brecksville in early 2009.

“We had decided on opening up another location and we came across this spot and we thought it was a great spot,” Tony said. ‘We thought the inside was very conducive to what we were trying to do. It has a nice ambiance in here and we thought it was a good location and we decided to open up.”

“I fell in love it immediately,” Roseanne said. “I knew it had the potential for it to really be what we really wanted it to be."

It took about four months to get the salon together before they opened their doors shortly after Thanksgiving.

They celebrated their arrival with an open house and were pleased by the community’s reaction.

“We had a lot of people stopping in to see what we were all about,” Roseanne said. “They loved it. They felt very home and at ease here.”

Do the couple worry about competing with the city's two other full-service salons? “We don’t concern ourselves with other salons,“ Tony said. “Some might say they are competitors, but we don’t even really give that a concern because we know what we want to achieve here and it’s really all about our clients."

Since their salon's opening, the couple has managed to build a steady client base through word of mouth as well as traditional advertising. Most of their clients are locals, though the couple say say they also get a fair amount of drops-ins from out town.

“We like to keep it on a lower side,“ Tony said. “We don’t really want the hustle and bustle of people coming in and out, per se. It’s not about volume for us . It’s about them coming in, getting a nice relaxed service being comfortable, feeling at home.”
