Planning Commission Holds Public Hearing

Homeowner gets city feedback and commission discusses Chippewa Road shopping center facelift.

Thursday night’s Planning Commission meeting covered many proposals throughout the city including a new home, playground and signs.

A public hearing to approve the placement of a Whitewood Drive home was the first on the agenda. Mirek Augustyniak presented his plans for the second time, but this time for an audience of about 30. No one had placement concerns, but general architectural objections arose.

“I’m just not sure the house is wholly compatible with the rest of the neighborhood,” neighbor Jim White said.

Despite comments, the Planning Commission approved the home’s placement. The Board of Design and Construction deals with community objections the look of the structure. Dom Sciria, commission member, warned Augustyniak of future neighborhood opposition that could lead to building permit retraction.

Brecksville Town Center sought approval for renovation of the Chippewa Road shopping center. The parking area, landscape and business facades would improve.

“Everybody pretty much knows that this center was in need of a face lift,” said architect Alex Espinosa.

City engineer Gerald Wise commented that the parking situation might cause problems at the traffic signal and otherwise. After a presentation and discussion, the renovation was not approved because of recommendations to adjust the parking lot proposal.

The commission approved a pavilion in Echo Hills and discussed how to move forward the creation of a natural playground at on Oakes Road.

Additionally, the Blossom Hill representatives have been at multiple meetings; this time, the commission told them that final approval would come after they worked with the building department and city engineer.

Signs and other proposals:

  • A residential lot split between Chris Davis and David Honeycutt was quickly approved.
  • Snowville Business Center representatives returned to continue discussion on lot split and found improvements to the plan.
  • The commission rejected signs for Nestle Professional and Oaks of Brecksville.
