Rep. Anielski Introduces Five New Bills Creating Unique School Funding Opportunity

COLUMBUS—State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) introduced five bills that would create an additional funding source for several schools in Cuyahoga County.

The pieces of legislation would create specialty license plates for Cleveland St. Ignatius High School, Lakewood St. Edward High School, Mayfield City Schools, Solon City Schools, and Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools. With the purchase of the specialty license plates, the school will receive additional funding that will be designated to assist in the emotional and mental well-being of the students, as well as tuition assistance for the private high schools.

Under the legislation, any Ohio resident who wishes to support one of these schools can purchase the appropriate license plate, which will showcase each school’s design. There will be an additional charge of $40 on top of the original costs for the plate—$10 to be used by the BMV for their administrative purposes and $30 to be directly earmarked to the corresponding schools. Purchasers of the plates shall remain anonymous from any school database, unless they complete a consent form to release their information to the schools.

“These five pieces of legislation is an excellent opportunity for constituents to show their support for their schools, plus provide their schools with additional resources to further assist students,” Rep. Anielski said.

President of St. Edward High School, Jim Kubacki commented, "St. Edward High School has committed alumni and parents throughout the state of Ohio. We are grateful that Representative Anielski’s bill will provide them the opportunity to represent our fine school and at the same time provide critical support for our students’ well-being. It is a win for all involved."
