The republican congress has blocked any extension of unemployment benefits for the long term unemployed. Senator Rob Portman has said he might consider voting for a 3 month extension if we could "pay" for the add'l cost. We need to help extend unemployment benefits to the long term unemployed for economic reasons. Here are some statistics: in Ohio 39,100 lost their benefits 12/28/13 & 48,800 will lose benefits in 2014. The loss of those funds in our state will have a huge negative impact on our economy. Why can't they eliminate farm subsidies for large agribusiness to pay for the unemployment benefits? Why can't we stop subsidies to big oil & divert those funds to the unemployed. It's the economy, it's all of us who will feel this impact..especially in Ohio.
Senator Portman needs to hear from us. Make sure to contact Senator Rob Portman tomorrow Phone: 202-224-3353.
See article below on the loss to our economy and the negative economic impact on the current recovery. This should not be a partisan issue. Many of the unemployed are over 50.
