Superintendent Says More Cuts Likely for Schools

Brecksville-Broadview Heights' superintendent and school board president discuss the levy failure.

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District will likely have to undergo more budget cuts in light of , Superintendent Scot Prebles said.

The district’s administration must also turn its attention to the , Prebles said. That levy is a renewal and would produce no new taxes.

“I am disappointed in the loss of our levy, but I understand that it is difficult to support a new tax levy in these tough economic times,” Balasko said in an email.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights’ levy was far from the only one that failed; only 59 percent of levies across the state passed, according to information from the Ohio School Boards Association

Balasko said he has already heard feedback from individuals on both sides of the issue – those who want to see the levy back on the ballot and those who don’t. The earliest a new levy could be placed on the ballot would be in November, Balasko said.
