Tales from a Multitasking Momma: Missing You

The author's daughter has been one busy social butterfly lately.

My child has been missing from her own bed for the past three Saturday nights. My daughter is such a social butterfly!

As you probably have gathered from reading my recent columns, this Momma has been extremely lately. I attended a bachelorette party for my future one evening, and in the Winking Lizard’s “Shot in the Dark” race another evening. So, Amelia has been spending some extra time with her grandparents. Oh, how she loves these sleepovers! She talks about them for days and days, but is still too young to fully grasp just how long she has to wait for Grammy and Grampy’s.

Last weekend, she took an unexpected road trip with Nana and Papa to see her cousin in West Virginia. The trip to West Virginia was very brief – just one night – to celebrate my niece’s fourth birthday with her other grandparents.

Amelia’s very lucky that her cousin is a mere six weeks older than she is, so even though they don’t get to see each other very often, they’re still really close. My daughter talks about her cousin all the time.

After her most recent return, when I was getting Amelia tucked into bed, I told her how much I missed her while she was away.

“Don’t worry, Mommy,” she said while gently touching my cheek. “I’ll always come back to you.”

Even now, days later, typing those words makes my heart melt. I really missed that little peanut of mine.
