U.S. Census 2010: Brecksville and Ohio Comparison
The latest numbers from the 2010 Census are out today.

Overall, Brecksville’s population is a bit older than the rest of Ohio’s, more of its residents live with family members and far fewer people rent, according to numbers released today by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Initial data from the 2010 census was released earlier this year; from the 2000 census and saw the city’s population grow a little more racially and ethnically diverse.
The figures out today offer some deeper insight into the make-up of the city. Here are a few interesting facts:

- Brecksville’s median age is 47.4. That's 8.6 years older than the median age of 38.8 for all of Ohio.
- About 51 percent of Ohio’s population is female and about 49 percent is male. In Brecksville, it’s even closer to a 50-50 split.
- Most of of Brecksville’s population, about 93 percent, identifies as white. About 83 percent of Ohio’s population identifies as white.
- The next largest group in the city are the residents who identify themselves as Asian. In Brecksville, 3.4 percent of the population identified themselves as Asian, with 1.5 percent identifying as Asian Indian. Only 1.7 percent of Ohio’s population identified as Asian, and only 0.6 percent of the state’s total population identified as Asian Indian.
- 72.6 percent of Brecksville residents live in a “family” household. 65 percent of Ohioans do. The census defines a “family” as a group of people living together where at least two of the people are related by birth, marriage or adoption. “Marriage” does not include same-sex marriages, even if the marriage was performed in state that issues marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
- The average family size for both Brecksville and for Ohio is about 3.
- About 32 percent of housing units in Ohio are rental properties. In Brecksville, only about 12 percent are.
