Update: Yuletide Hunger Program Still Accepting Donations

Tuesday was the sorting day at Blossom Hill.

Human Services Director Ted Lux said in an email that the Yuletide Hunger Program is short on food this year, but that they will be able to buy what they need using the cash donations. Lux noted that the monetary donations were very generous, especially from the students in the school district.

But food donations are still being accepted. If anyone would like to donate to the Yuletide Hunger Program, they can drop food off at Blossom Hill, 4400 Oakes Road.

Volunteers of all ages gathered in one of the buildings at Blossom Hill Tuesday afternoon to sort donations for this year’s .

Volunteer Ken Orchard, of Richfield, said that by sorting the donations, the volunteers are able to give a better variety to families.

The Yuletide Hunger Program helps feed families in need in Brecksville, Broadview Heights, Seven Hills and Independence during the holiday season. Collections began in mid-November at the and and wrapped up earlier this month.

Orchard, who was overseeing the sorting Tuesday afternoon, has been with the program almost since it began. He planned to have the sorting done by Tuesday night, and all the goods would be delivered to families on Saturday.

This year’s donations will serve nearly 150 families in the area, he said.
