Yuengling Stakes Its Claim in Ohio

Since it's Ohio launch in early October, area businesses are seeing impressive sales and a high demand for the American lager.

In October, the nation’s oldest brewery entered its newest market, and since its arrival, Yuengling beer has been a hot seller in Ohio.

Jim LaRose, president and chief operating officer of the , said that 24-bottle Yuengling cases have sold more than twice what was originally projected in the first month.

Thousands of cases have been purchased from the local distributor by area bars, restaurants and grocery stores, and as of early November, the demand among consumers hadn’t let up.

The sales surge can be attributed to consumer curiosity, the beer's cult-like following and its appeal among specialty and premium beer drinkers, LaRose said.

“(Yuengling) has been a huge success, and we’re happy to finally have it,” manager Simone Walter said.

According to www.Yuengling.com, the long-awaited decision dealt with production, with the company having to expand its Mill Creek brewery in Pottsville, Pa. to meet the Ohio demand.

George Prochaska, owner and operator of Brecksville’s , echoed Walter's comments, although he and LaRose noted that the high sales will likely level off in the months ahead.

“It’s a trial period here where sales would be higher now than probably what you’d normally expect down the road. But, out of the box, it’s a tremendous reception,” LaRose said.
