Zoning Change Eyed at Blossom Hill Property

Brecksville City Council is considering a zoning change that would “overlay” an Office Building zoning distinction to the city’s Blossom Hill property on Oakes Road.

But don’t look for office buildings to sprout up on the site — it’s more of a housekeeping issue.   

Mayor Jerry Hruby said that the change would simply allow the city to have offices at the property — think administrative outposts — should it be needed.  

He introduced the proposal to council on Tuesday.  

“Some are going to say ‘oh my gosh, we’re going to have this big office building there,’” Hruby said. “Once they hear that’s not the case, it will all go to rest.”  

Hruby said he met with the planning commission, and added that any other uses besides “community facility” — including schools, recreational facilities and athletic fields — would not be permitted without a zoning change.  

By law, the measure still has a couple readings before city council before any action could be taken.  

“That will give the public the opportunity to come in and have a chance to hear the reading and object, if they wish,” Hruby added.
