Towne Printer owner reflects as longtime Canton business set to close (cantonrep.com) — A 93-year-old Canton printer and former Plain Local Schools teacher is preparing to close The Towne Printer on Cleveland Avenue NW after decades of serving local schools, businesses, and recovery groups. As the shop winds down ahead of a Sept. 4 closure, family and colleagues reflect on his impact, while the future of the Canton properties remains undecided.
2. Canton shooting leaves man seriously injured after gunfire strikes Maple Avenue home (wkyc.com) — A 22-year-old man was seriously wounded early Thursday when someone fired multiple rounds into a home on Maple Avenue NE in Canton, leaving the house and a vehicle riddled with bullet strikes. Police recovered shell casings, rifle rounds, and several handguns, and are continuing to investigate but have not announced any suspects or additional victims.
3. Canton police searching for female suspect in shooting that injured two (fox8.com) — Canton police are asking for the public's help locating 25-year-old Nakayla A. Smith, wanted in connection with a Tuesday night shooting on 6th Street SW that left two women with non-life-threatening leg wounds. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Canton Communications Center or submit anonymous tips through Tip411 or Stark County Crime Stoppers.
4. Stark Parks' Sippo Lake Trail to get new blacktop surface (thesuburbanite.com) — A key stretch of the Sippo Lake Trail near Exploration Gateway is closed for several weeks as Stark Parks repaves about a mile of the path with new blacktop. Funded by local donors and groups, the $162,000 project follows last year's bridge replacement and will be celebrated with a public dedication on September 10.
5. This Day in History: Aug. 20, 2026 (wtap.com) — Canton's role in football history takes center stage in this look back at the August 20, 1920 meeting at a local auto showroom that launched the forerunner to the NFL. The story traces how Jim Thorpe and the Canton Bulldogs helped turn Ohio's early pro teams into a national league.
