ā¢ Mom & daughters to open Heather's Place at former Athens Restaurant (cantonrep.com) ā A new family-run diner, Heather's Place, is opening Sept. 9 in the former Athens Restaurant at 816 Harrison Ave. in Canton, serving homestyle breakfasts, lunches, and some Greek favorites. The owners, longtime Canton residents, also plan community efforts like supporting Canton City Schools students and adopting a family for Christmas, with regular hours Wednesday through Sunday mornings and early afternoons.

ā¢ Early Childhood Resource Center to host Canton open house (kentucky.com) ā Families in Canton can visit the Early Childhood Resource Center's open house on Oct. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 1718 Cleveland Ave. NW to explore programs, meet staff, and enjoy crafts and refreshments. Kids can also pick up a free Halloween costume while supplies last, with registration encouraged but walkāins welcome.

ā¢ Today in history: Germany launches Blitz on UK (bostonglobe.com) ā A historical roundup notes that on this date in 1963, the Pro Football Hall of Fame opened in Canton enshrining its first 17 members, a point of pride for local football fans. The list also recalls global and national milestones from the Blitz in World War II to the first Miss America pageant and the origin of the term "Uncle Sam."
