Massillon-Canton Food Fight A Success
Tigers and Pups scored big for the hungry during 2017 McKinley/Massillon Food Fight.

CANTON, OH - From the Stark County Hunger Task Force: The Tigers battled the Bulldogs for a 16 to 15 victory Saturday on the field of Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, while the fans from both schools combined for a win over hunger in the Food Fight.
The pre-game McKinley – Massillon Food Fight sponsored by WHBC and Mix 94.1 radio stations brought in a total of 56,323 pounds of groceries to feed the hungry in Stark County through food and monetary donations.
In a friendly competition between the fans, McKinley captured honors in the sixth annual Food Fight bringing in 29,985 pounds of donations, but beating out Massillon fans by more than 3,647 pounds.
All donations in the food fight went to Stark County Hunger Task Force and to be distributed through the organization’s network of more than 30 pantries throughout Stark County.

During this and the past five annual Food Fights, the pup and tiger fans brought in more than 172,000 pounds of food to benefit their neighbors who struggle to put food on the table.
The McKinley High School received the traveling trophy (plaque) and bragging rights until the 2018 renewal of the rivalry. The winner is determined by the amount of food and monetary donations converted into pounds by officials from SCHTF.

Every dollar donated provides seven pounds of food for the hungry and gained a seven pound credit for the school of choice in the competition.
Representatives from the Stark County Hunger Task Force, WHBC and Mix 94.1 announced the total collections and the winning school from the field of Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium during the game Saturday.
Food and monetary donation were collected at the schools; Stark County Hunger Task Force offices; WHBC / Mix 94.1 radio stations and during Food Fight final rallies Friday at Dunkin’ Donuts shops in Massillon at 309 Lincoln Way W and Canton at 325 Cleveland Ave. NW.
Founded in 1981, Stark County Hunger Task Force at 408 9th St. SW, Canton, leads the battle against hunger in Stark County. Operating almost entirely on donations, SCHTF provides free groceries to over 29,000 individuals every month through more than 30 food pantries, “Backpacks for Kids” programs and an emergency pantry.
