Here are the top three stories in Cincinnati today:
- Last Wednesday the Cincinnati City Council unanimously approved an emergency ordinance that will set aside an additional $1M in speed-reduction measures to help protect pedestrians. The ordinance was sponsored by Mayor Aftab Pureval and council member Mark Jeffreys, and will be funded by American Rescue Plan funds from 2021. The monies will go towards increasing the number of communities receiving speed-reduction tools, hardened centerlines, and curb bump-outs that offer protection to pedestrians. (Cincinnati CityBeat)
- Richard Lang, Cincinnati Children's director of the visual systems group, and his team have invented a violet light technology that influences eye development, circadian rhythms, and metabolism. The technology, which was developed over the last decade, optimizes light exposure to influence sleep and daytime wellness. It was installed in the neonatal intensive care unit at Cincinnati Children's recently opened Critical Care Building. (The Cincinnati Enquirer)
- Police are investigating the theft of 300 pairs of sneakers worth $100K from a storage unit on Apr. 1. The unit is owned by Mike Giddens who runs Heart and Sole Cincy, an online shoe outlet. The break-in happened when he was on vacation. (WLWT Cincinnati)
