Here are the top three stories today in Cincinnati:
- The Cincinnati City council unanimously approved a new operating budget worth more than $470 million on Thursday. Mayor Pureval said he's pleased with what was included but acknowledged that inflation remains an issue going forward. The budget includes money for two new police and fire department recruit classes, with the city getting as many as 100 new firefighters. (WKRC TV Cincinnati)
- On Thursday, dozens of Cincinnati community leaders gathered to brainstorm ways to connect kids to the trauma-healing help they need. The meeting was focused on childhood trauma and its adverse effects on kids and their rise into adulthood. Cincinnati Vice Mayor Jan-Michele Kearney, city council members, and child advocacy groups attended the meeting. (WLWT Cincinnati)
- The Water Lantern Festival will return to Cincinnati to light up the water in Eden Park on Jul. 9 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Participants design their own lanterns and write down their hopes, dreams or even a letter to a loved one, before setting it afloat on the water. One thousands lanterns are expected to be in the water. (WLWT Cincinnati)
